Neuropsychological Evaluations

Pediatric neuropsychological testing involves a formal evaluation of abilities such as memory, language skills, visual processing, and executive skills (organization, planning, inhibition, attention) as they relate to brain structure and brain development. Additional testing will provide information on general intellect, achievement skills (reading, math, etc.), social skills and emotional functioning.

Children and adolescents are referred for neuropsychological evaluation to help find the causes of difficulties in learning, attention, behavior, socialization, emotional control, developmental delay or brain injury from an accident, birth trauma, medical issue or other physical stressors. The results of this testing help guide treatment of those problems.

Developmental Evaluations

Developmental Evaluations combine aspects of a neuropsychological evaluation with a more in-depth examination of a child/adolescents current level of social, emotional and cognitive development, in comparison to same age peers. Developmental evaluation is often part of the process when there are concerns about Asperger’s, Autism, or other Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).

Educational Evaluations

Educational Evaluations are focused on determining if there are specific learning issues that are contributing to a child/adolescent failing to progress at an age appropriate level. Reading, Writing and Math skills are evaluated and specialized measures to look at phonemic decoding, receptive language skills and visual acuity may also be administered.

Psychological Evaluations

Psychological evaluations provide some information on cognitive abilities, but the primary focus is on emotional behavioral, and social functioning. Assessments of depression, anxiety, and other emotional disorders are part of these evaluations.
